The ultimate utilitarian poem
Victor Abruzzi

I want to write
the ultimate utilitarian poem
one that fits nicely
on a napkin folded,
one that sits quietly
beside your cup of coffee,
one that doesn’t mind
waiting and waiting
until despairing
for a glance from your eyes
and a read,
a blush,
a surprise,
and maybe then a kiss for me
or maybe just
your lovely smile.

You say:
‘Nice try.
Better luck next time.’
I say:
‘I’ll be here girl
as every Friday night.’
